The Course
by Karl Bauknight

Nine complete strangers, airline passengers are intentionally stranded on a small Caribbean island for reasons they can’t comprehend. Within minutes, they’re thrown into a diabolical test of survival.

Challenged by computer riddles, nearly drowned, threatened by poisonous snakes and elaborately set up physical challenges. They’re herded like rats in a strange maze, directed by an invisible hand under the merciless tropical sun. It seems like a bizarre game -- until the first fatality . . .

But who’s behind it, and why them?

Their only hope of survival -- to work with each other, to try to survive long enough to discover the answers.

Great read! Throughout the story, I feel there where no indications of the outcome, and as an avid mystery lover I always look for them. The ending was one that everyone can look within themselves and benefit from. Thanks for all the work you put into writing a book I enjoyed reading.

The Course edition by Karl Bauknight Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

A truly engaging book, different from anything I have ever read. This one will stick with me a long time.
Although somewhat dated in its descriptions, the story is truly intriguing and accurate to the tropics. Once into it, I struggled to put it down. Author has a talent for dialogue

Reminiscent of the The Game but written many years earlier. Lots of unexpected twists. Good read for a Caribbean vacation. Just add a rum drink and put your feet in the sand!
The Course is a great summer read. Author Karl Bauknight eases the reader into an intriguing plot that is a mixture of the TV show Lost and one or the other of Nicholas Sparks' better novels. His character development in the middle of the book, especially between Nick and Lenore as husband and wife, is exquisite. Another really interesting thing about this book is the author's use of multiple protagonists working in concert with each other. Unusual, to be sure, but it works well. In short, this book is a page turner and as a download from is a top drawer bargain. I see that this is the only book by Bauknight currently offered by . It should definitely not be the last.

Loved this book. It reminded me of Lost. Kept my interest right to the end.
Having visited St. John, Tortola, and St. Thomas often, and as recently as this summer, and having enjoyed those balmy breezes and swum in those warm, turquoise Caribbean seas, I was happy to be aboard, so to speak, that ten-seater flight from San Juan, PR, that opens The Course. This intriguing tale gets better and better and represents a perfect first download on my new . I found myself as the eleventh protagonist as the captive group negotiates each increasingly dangerous challenge. The author develops his diverse characters beautifully and the tension mounts until stopping the page turning becomes impossible. The story is instructive, a manual for living life to the fullest, and should be considered a must-read. There is nothing better than a novel, set in familiar territory, that introduces and develops interesting characters from whom much is to be learned, and which adds new prospective on beloved places. The author is to be congratulated for creating a 'new world'where values, character, and courage are artfully explored. The result is a thrilling, instructive voyage, not to be missed.
What a delightful surprise! Although I am not familiar with this author, I downloaded this book and others for a vacation read. The Course was creative in plot, entertaining and engrossing. The carefully crafted narrative drew me in. I didn't put my down until the book was finished. My only complaint is that I did not get my back for the rest of my vacation. All my friends at the beach decided it was a "must read", but I had the only copy! The other books that I downloaded had to wait until I could get my back on the trip home. I would like to read more books from this author.
Great read! Throughout the story, I feel there where no indications of the outcome, and as an avid mystery lover I always look for them. The ending was one that everyone can look within themselves and benefit from. Thanks for all the work you put into writing a book I enjoyed reading.
